Did You Know Who Is God? God Loves Kids Wednesday's Word Community Prayer Requests Questions

Embracing Awkwardness

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)"Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me."

Have you ever noticed that learning seems harder as you get older? Yes, researchers excuse it—brain development or something. But I think it might also be related to losing the humility of a child. We don’t want to look dumb. Adults are supposed to know everything.

Think about it. When you first learned to walk, ride a bike, or swim, did you look like a pro? No. If you learned to play the piano as a kid, did you start out with a piece from Rachmaninoff? No. But you probably weren’t too discouraged as you figured out “Chopsticks,” or fell a few times, because you were constantly learning and growing. As we get older, unfortunately, it is harder to admit that we are still learning. As we begin our chosen profession or figure out how to buy a car or house on our own, we discover two major problems. First, our ignorance. Second, our pride.

Thankfully, Jesus has a lot of patience for our faltering first steps. Maybe it’s taking on a church leadership position, beginning a new friendship or relationship, or stepping out by faith in a direction God is calling with no guarantees. Maybe it’s reaching out to God in a way you’ve never had to before. And it feels awkward. But that’s RIGHT where Jesus loves to meet us—when we are humble and teachable. When we come to the end of our wisdom, money, strength, love—we come to the beginning of His!

Embrace awkwardness for the sake of Jesus, and you will feel the arms of Jesus holding you even tighter.
